Learning Outcome 2

Learning Outcome 2

In my writing process, I like to think about what I am writing about and answer whatever question I am being asked. Initially, I answer the question and that answer ends up being my thesis statement. This phase allows me to think about what kind of quotes I would like to find and use from whatever texts I am using. Once I have a clear and direct answer, I dive into my sources with a clear a direct purpose to find the deepest and most in depth quote that supports my thesis. To use these quotes, I like to give a little introduction on how it ties back to my thesis. After I use the quote, I explain it in my own words to help the reader better understand it if they didn’t already. Then you go into very deep detail on why it supports your thesis and any personal opinions on It. Here is an example, “Turkle talks about how technology is taking away from our face-to-face interactions, and I can see this now especially when people say that they can’t order and need someone else to do it for them. Turkle says, “But these conversations require time and space, and we say we’re too busy. Distracted at our dinner tables and living rooms, business meetings, and on our streets, we find traces of a new “silent spring”- a term Rachel Carson coined when we were ready to see that with technological change had come an assault on technology is implicated in an assault on empathy.” People are so distracted and brainwashed over their phones and it’s so bad they say they are “too busy”. I can see this in our generation right now when I hang out with people then all the of a sudden everyone is just on their phone and sitting there in silence. It also raises a critical point about the way in which technology has infiltrated our lives and reshaped our social dynamics. The constant need to stay connected through smartphones and other digital devices can lead to a sense of busyness that distracts us from genuine face-to-face interactions, ultimately affecting our ability to empathize with others.” Here this quote I thought really tied back to the question I was answering and after the quote I thought that I put it into my own words I a good way so that the reader better understood it. Then tying it back to my thesis is probably the biggest part in the whole process and you need to explain why it ties back to it.
