Standard #3 Learning Environments

Standard #3 Learning Environments

The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects ofthe discipline accessible and meaningful for learners.

The artifact I selected is the first case study I did in SPE 301. This aligns to Learning Environments because it focuses on how teachers create organized, supportive, and effective classroom routines. In my reflection, I explained how unclear expectations and a lack of practiced procedures caused disruptions, and I suggested proactive strategies such as modeling routines, establishing shared expectations, and using calm, consistent teacher language.

This assignment strengthened my understanding that a positive learning environment comes from planning and teaching routines, not just reacting to behavior. I learned the importance of building relationships, setting clear expectations, and reinforcing them consistently. This will improve my future practice by helping me create a classroom environment where students feel secure, respected, and ready to learn.

My Inclusive Classroom Culture Plan outlines the routines, expectations, and strategies I use to create a safe, supportive, and engaging PE environment. It aligns with Standard 3, which emphasizes understanding core disciplinary concepts and designing learning experiences that are meaningful and accessible for all students. The plan highlights how I organize the physical space, greet students, establish shared expectations, incorporate SEL practices, and use intentional teacher language to promote safety, inclusion, and active participation. Together, these elements demonstrate my ability to structure a learning environment where every student can engage confidently.

This assignment strengthened my understanding of how purposeful learning environments influence student success in PE. Developing the plan helped me think more intentionally about routines, behavior supports, and student-centered practices that make movement-based learning accessible for diverse learners. It reinforced the importance of proactive planning, relationship-building, and clear expectations. Moving forward, the strategies I developed will guide me in creating environments that support engagement, positive behavior, and meaningful learning, helping me grow as an effective and responsive educator.
