Standard #9 Reflection and Continuous Growth
The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
The artifact I selected for my ePortfolio is my “What I Learned” Reflection, in which I analyzed my work with a student and reflected on what I learned about instruction, assessment, and my own teaching decisions. This artifact aligns with Standard #9: Reflection and Continuous Growth because it demonstrates how I used evidence from my teaching experience to evaluate my practice and its impact on my student. Through this reflection, I considered how my instructional choices such as modeling writing steps, giving clear examples, and providing meaningful feedback and how they effected the student’s engagement, confidence, and learning. This process shows my commitment to using reflection as a tool for improving both my instruction and the learning experience for each student.
Completing this assignment deepened my understanding of how reflective practice strengthens my effectiveness as an educator. By analyzing what worked and what needed improvement, I gained clearer insight into how my decisions shape student outcomes. I learned the importance of adjusting instruction based on student needs, breaking tasks into manageable steps, and using assessment continuously rather than just at the end of a lesson. This assignment reinforced how ongoing reflection helps me grow professionally and refine my teaching practices. Moving forward, I will use this reflective process to make more intentional instructional choices, support diverse learners, and continue developing as a thoughtful and responsive educator.
