Learning Outcome 5 & 6
The Modern Language Association (MLA) format is often dismissed and seems so extra at first glance, but actually it serves a crucial role in maintaining consistency and clarity in academic writing. While some may initially find it annoying to do and so extra, the structured nature of MLA format offers numerous benefits that contribute to the overall cleanliness and professionalism of an essay. One of the primary advantages of MLA format is its ability to create a uniform appearance across different academic papers. Whether it’s an essay, research paper, or any other written assignment, following MLA guidelines ensures that each document adheres to the same set of rules regarding font, margins, spacing, and citation styles. This uniform not only enhances the visual appeal of the document but also provides a standardized framework that provides easy navigation and understanding for both writers and readers. Before coming to college I had never used the MLA format so this was a big change for me. You can see from my project 1 final to my project 2 final there is a huge difference. In project 1 i was trying to figure out what it was and tried to make an attempt at it. But in project 2 you can see the change. It looks professional and up to the MLA standards. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes easy and a habit. Overall, it may initially appear as an unnecessary set of rules, but it reveals itself as a valuable tool for creating polished and well-presented academic writing. Embracing MLA format ultimately transforms the writing process into a more structured and streamlined experience, where focus can shift from formatting concerns to the development and expression of ideas.
Here is an example of me doing the MLA format.
