Learning Outcome 4

Peer review is an essential part in anyone’s writing journey, representing an exchange that benefits both the reviewer and the writer. Offering constructive feedback is not only a beneficial act but it goes both ways in the process that offers growth in both parties involved. When engaging in peer review, you are not just a critic but also a student to learn from others writing styles. Observing and analyzing the unique approaches and techniques used by other writers opens many doors for expanding one’s own writing. Just seeing how someone else writes and how they use certain words can change how you write. As you can see in the peer review I have here I say how I like how the writer uses personal experiences so that the reader can connect more. This is something I started to use because of how much I liked it. This is a perfect example because I never really did this in my writing but I realized how well it works so I started to use it. One thing you realize too when someone else peer reviews your writing is you might think something sounds good but really it makes no sense to anyone else. The cross-pollination of ideas transforms the peer review process from a 1 way thing into a collaborative exploration, where each participant contributes to the collective goal and idea. Overall peer review is a very important step in drafting and does not only benefit the person’s paper you are commenting on but it also benefits you to learn from what they have.
