Standard #6 Assessment

Standard #6 Assessment

The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision making.

The artifact I selected is my Reading Assessment experience, where I administered a summative reading test measuring students’ comprehension, vocabulary, and mastery of unit skills. This aligns with Standard #6 because it demonstrates my ability to use assessments to monitor progress and guide instructional decisions. By reading the passage and questions aloud, I ensured accessibility while also observing which students were confident and which needed support. The results helped identify mastered standards, areas requiring reteaching, and students who may benefit from additional small-group instruction.

This assessment experience strengthened my understanding of how summative assessments inform teaching and support student growth. Analyzing the results showed me how important it is to look for patterns in student errors and use that data to adjust instruction. Moving forward, I hope to make assessments feel more connected to learning by including opportunities for student reflection and clearer feedback. Overall, this assignment helped me grow in using assessment data purposefully and responsively, improving my effectiveness as an educator.
